答案是A。但是less无论是修饰sales还是修饰dollars都说不过去，因为它们都是可数名词啊？我选的是E。

答案是E。
但是second只能做名词和形容词，不能做副词，放在这里好象不合适呀。而且按照平行原则，first of all是副词词性，这里也应该用secondly才对应啊。当然，后面的for短语也应该用for failling to比较好。所以我觉得应该是secondly, for failing to才是标准答案。那位NN快给我指导一下！

less可修饰可数名词：名词(如 sales, population，weight) + of + less than 常用，在此 less 作名词用

谢谢！这一说好象想起来以前也遇到过less的类似用法，只是没有总结出规律。

less确实可以用来修饰可数名词，尤其是在距离、金额和一些固定习语中常用。

查了一些Merriam-Webster,找到了如下的依据：

Less is more likely than fewer to modify plural nouns when distances, sums of money, and a few fixed phrases are involved <less than 100 miles> <an investment of less than $2000> <in 25 words or less> and as likely as fewer to modify periods of time <in less (or fewer) than four hours>.
