答案选E，E就相当于只是一个名词discovery啊，那么句子就变为，discovery, Arizona, has.....，这不正确吧

我觉得应该选B,前半句是独立主格

之所以不选c,我认为是因为如果discovering做伴随状语的话句意上不符合，怎么能一直发现呢。

请高手解释到底应该选什么，谢谢

哎呀，对不起大家，我刚才查到这道题的老贴了，我理解错了，那个Arizona是紧接着前面的Tempe的地名

A，during the excavating不好，在表达一件已经完成的事情的时候，除非这个动词没有-tion的形式，一般都用-tion的形式，(如excavation),而不用doing的形式(如excavating)

B，at the excavation

C，at the excavating，discovering做主语，不如它的名词形式好

D，主语不合逻辑意思，是发现这件事情doubled the number，而不是figurines

E is the best，从网上找到了出处：http://www.archaeology.org/0107/newsbriefs/dogs.html，与E一模一样

Discovery可以作double的主语.参见OG49
