答案是E

那為什麼這裡的不定式修飾不會有歧義比方說 Australian embryologists ...to suggest 和evidence ...to suggest

語法筆記上是說不定式做狀語修飾動詞結構(have found) ...

然而

prep2的第15題的語法筆記上卻說不定式『...通常做狀語表目的,其邏輯主詞可能是句子主詞...』

在第15題反而擔心去修飾到主詞而不是鄰近的名詞

請問各位NN該如何解釋這裡呢？謝謝回答～～～

147:
A的主要問題是", and its trunk originally
evolved...", 那個comma令到"its trunk originally evolved..."跟"Australian
embryologists have found evidence.."並列, 可是句的意思不是那樣.
B的"has suggested"時態不對, its的指代對象不清
C的"had descended"時態不對, "with its trunk originally evolving.."令到its指"an aquatic animal".
D的"has descended"時態不對, "the elephant has descended from an aquatic animal"跟"its trunk originally evolved"的並列不是很公整
E的to suggest是表"have found"這個動作的目的, suggest這動作發出者是Australian embryologists
X verb1 Y to verb2的結構大部份是修前面的動作...除了固定搭配(e.g. reluctance to do something...)

我有2个问题：

1)正确选项E，(E) to suggest that the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal and that its trunk originally evolved
这里的evolved前是否省略了is？我觉得应该是，evolved应该是被动语态吧？也就是说，并列的分句，第二个be动词可以省略，对吗？

2) 选项A (A) that suggests that the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal, and its trunk originally evolved 中that suggests that的用法没有错，关键是并列的分句没有用and that去形成完整的对应。如果这个选项改为：(A) that (1)suggests that(2) the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal and that (3)its trunk originally evolved 是否正确？是否会产生that(3)是跟that(1)平行，还是跟that(2)平行的歧义？

请大家指教，谢谢！

進化是自然發生, 所以evolved應該是主動而不是被動.

mostly agree with Alienx。

但是小小疑惑，感觉那个find sth to suggest 好诡异，一般来说evidence后面跟的都是来修饰evidence内容的，传统考法也就是that从句pk of宾语的结构，这里的to do很容易让人联想到修饰evidence

ps:就算真的是find sth to suggest的结构从感觉上来看也是怪怪的，因为感觉为了。。。目的而找到。。。很怪啊，如果是look for sth to...还可以解释，这里的find感觉就是陈述结果和事实的呀。。。

(A) that suggests that the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal, and its trunk originally evolved ---可以修改为and that its trunk originally evolved 或者干脆去掉,不过这样一来是说明~~~~的证据了，效果不是很好，因为头重脚轻很明显，这句话用目的状语明显好于定语

(B) that has suggested the elephant descended from an aquatic animal, its trunk originally evolving---BCD时态问题，suggest要么是doing sth,要么是suggest that

(D) to suggest that the elephant has descended from an aquatic animal and its trunk originally evolved

(E) to suggest that the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal and that its trunk originally evolved

suggest that:表示建议用虚拟语气语气，这时候用法和advise，recommend之类词一样；表示暗示的时候用陈述语气

个人感觉题干的evidence应该加the,否则我觉得是病句，evidence不可以做集体名词的吧，不过小问题吧

好多年没看过语法了，过几天开始复习

找到了证据来表明大象的进化，为啥怪呢？你可以想象很多人都提出来大象的进化学说，可是没证据，澳大利亚的科学家终于找到了证据，表明了~~~，翻译不一定要把目的那么明确的翻译出来

我记得不错的话动词高中时候学习不定式一共有16种用法，这里你也可以认为它是伴随状况，找到证据，同时就表明了，一直觉得预感还是很重要的

如果选E的话，平行倒是可以理解，但形成了
suggest that the elephant……suggest that its……的结构，这样的话后半句的Its实际没有直接的指代词，会不会造成歧义？

OG解释 It is awkward and confusing to string together relative clauses: evidence that suggests that the elephant....

that suggests that the elephant 这个表达也错了~~

我感觉恰恰是因为平行的对称结构,使得这个已不能不能够有明确指代的its对应了前面的elephant所以消除了歧义~~

这题虽然选了E，但是靠had descended时态和that suggests that/that has suggested排出的，谁能说一下C/D里的with用法有什么问题？

我觉得这才是这道题目的关键。整个后面的句子用的是suggest that someone (should) do 的句型。所以排除其他suggest that someone has done的选项。
gapping是英语写作中的一种语法，省略连词连接的并列分句中的重复动词。
比如， Some ate bread, and others （ate） rice.
Fred likes to pet the cat, and Sally （likes to pet the） dog.
is作为这里的重复动词被省略掉了。希望研究过这道题的出来指正。
