1.
With no natural predators and with expanses of green suburban neighborhoods where there is no hunting, the deer population in New Jersey, wildlife officials estimate, has grown to exceed 175,000

开始没明白为什么是the deer population而不是the dear,应该是鹿这种动物有predator而不是鹿的数目有，后来查了下字典发现population的几种用法:

1）people who live in an area, a city, a country,etc （地区，城市，国家的全体居民）

Eg: the populations of western european countries

西欧各国的全体人民（population是可以有复数的。。汗，之前一直认为是抽象名词的。。。。）

2）particular group or type of people or animals inhabiting an area, etc.(聚居于某地的）一群人或动物

Eg: the working population 全体劳动者

the immigrant population 全体移民

（以前看到population就很自觉地联想到：人口数，后边一定是个数，汗。。）

3）total number of these 人口；区域内动物的总数

前边两类一直是被忽略掉的，原来长期以来一直误会population了。。。

我觉得这里的population还应该是第三种意思吧，动物的数目，只可能数目增加到175000，全体deer怎么会增加到175,000？
