(D) When compared with those who do not, people running three days a week save

我想请问一下，D、E选项除了其它错误，用when有没有问题？when compared to 和 compared to都可以吗？

这道题正确选项D中，to help为目的状语，但前面为什么要加逗号呢？我很少看见不定式前面有逗号的，不知有没有问题？

when引导时间从句可是后面跟的是关于人的比较好像没道理吧

而且是不是算OG比较喜欢说的wordy

比较物要对等，nonrunners和people，其余项都错

排除ab，不用with,

因为是one of用单数，排除c，e

gmat里很喜欢用probably 然后加表目的的不定式

我觉得第一个的DE选项中when引导的从句省略了主语

所以主语应向后寻找

d中compare的主语是people，即people are compared to。。。

e中同理 running is compared to。。。

如此说来好像when compared 和直接用compared to都可以

还请nn指点

第一题中如果不考虑其他问题，那么when就是多余的，要省略。要不然就wordy了。

仔细看这两个，会发现D其实与B和语义是有细微不同的
B是“与……相比，那些跑步者如何”
D是“当......比较时，那些跑步者如何”，暗示了一个条件关系

我觉得 when compared with 还是属于wordy的问题。

应该还是可以的，因为这里“had large clawlike "thumbs" on its wings”实际上主句已经很完整了，to help后面的部分可以认为是修饰 "thumbs"的非限定性成分，做补充说明用（实际我们可以发现删除to help后面的部分，句子也很完整）。
