not only...but also...also 可以省略，这个没问题

但是but是否可以省略，保留also？

例句：Not only did he refuse the gift, he also severely criticized the sender.这里就省略了but

umm...我看了OG/Prep/GWD都沒有這樣的用法...看了幾本usage書, 都沒提過...可能是wrong example?

LS传到授业解惑很认真，感动。我在想是不是这个句子不是not only...but also结构，而只是not位于句首倒装的一种巧合，碰上了only和also?

my vote is that "but" cannot be omitted in such structure.

晕了，我在NYTIMES里面也找到类似的例子了，大家看看：

3和4比较好理解，之间有像“。”和“；”的标点，但是例子1和2与使用not only...but （also）有啥差别就不是很明白了，谁有机会问问NATIVE-SPEAKERS吧

OG11-52-A：And also is not the correct idiom; not only is followed by but also or also

那么not only ..also 就应该是个correct idiom
