我理解为学生缺乏数学技能到了如此一个程度,以至于......,so as to的逻辑主语与句子主语学生也搭配的没有问题,唯一的疙瘩在于make it difficult中

我只了解such后面一般都不能放抽象名词.....,但是我似乎很难把握抽象名词和实意名词的区别,这里莫非degree程度是抽象名词?

和这个没关系,这里主要是和as to搭配成so....as to。
GMAT中表示太....以至于基本都是so.....that/as to
把so改成such都是错的。(我不能100%保证绝对这样,但是可以作为一个判断标准)
问一下版主so/such(假设such可以用的话)... as to的问题,
记得白勇的书说so...as to 可用于单一主谓结构中,逻辑主语为句子主语,表示主语可以执行as to后面的动作,那这个句子里的主语无疑是student,那不就是说student可以执行make it difficult to...所以就不合理了吗,就像4楼说的那样
