17.!!!Although the coordination of monetary policy can help facilitate the orderly financing of existing imbalances, it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant in the absence of an appropriate fiscal adjustment.E
(A) it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant
(B) it is unlikely that the size of their effect would be significant
(C) affecting their sizes are not likely to be significant
(D) the significance of their effect on its size is unlikely
(E) its effect on their size is not likely to be significant

Given two possible "[un]likely" usages:
1. it's [un]likely that something will <- most likely to be in future tense
2. it's [un]likely to do something
Choice E seems to be the right answer. Your hunch is right at least for this Q!

(a) it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant

而在A选项中,it 指待that从句,而its则指待前面的the coordination of monetary policy.

(b) it is unlikely that the size of their effect would be significant

their指待单数名词the coordination of monetary policy,所以不行.

(c) affecting their sizes are not likely to be significant

(d) the significance of their effect on its size is unlikely

对于这个题,自由的理解:自由的理解:A错在in the absence到底对it is unlikely that进行修饰还是对it is unlikely that后的that从句中的谓语部分进行修饰产生了矛盾和摸棱两可。

I keep forgetting to pay special attention to pronoun(s) whenever it's part of answer choice(s).

Which one sounds good?
Although x can do y, it is unlikely that its z on k is s ....
Although x can do y, its z on k is not likely to be s......
Plus, likely to do st is more idiomatical
