key A

prep解释说C and it 造成了run on.可以这里明明不是有连词and,怎么还run on 了呢

作者: aeoluseros    时间: 2008-8-19 04:04

两个并列句子,如果主语一样,中间除了用and连接外,后面还重复了主语,那就是run-on sentence的一种,这种定义比正常语法要严格多了。

一开始我也无法接受,不过prep里这种题目见多了也就习惯了。

135.

Intar, the oldest Hispanic theater company in New York, has moved away from the Spanish classics and now it draws on the works both of contemporary Hispanic authors who live abroad and of those in

the United States.

(A)  now it draws on the works both of contemporary Hispanic authors who live abroad and of

(B)   now draws on the works of contemporary Hispanic authors, both those who live abroad and those who live

(C)  it draws on the works of contemporary Hispanic authors now, both those living abroad

and who live

(D)  draws now on the works both of contemporary Hispanic authors living abroad and who are

(E)   draws on the works now of both contemporary Hispanic authors living abroad and those

找到一道

A和C就是run-on sentence的典型例子

and 连接并列句,如果第二句中出现主语的话,则and前一定要有逗号隔开

上面那个135是OG10里的例子,OG对A,C的解释是:

In choices A and C, it intrudes between the halves of the compound verb has moved... and [now] draws to introduce a new grammatical subject, thereby creating a run-on sentence:the inclusion of it requires a comma after classics to set off the new independent clause

所以我想...那种形式在GMAT里是被定义成了run-on sentence了...

欢迎讨论和进一步认证

OG书的前言里有对Run on的定义

sorry, my bad, I mean prep2-137C is NOT a run-on sentence.  so yes, the prep explanation is wrong.
135A and 135C are run-on sentences.

我也为Prep对于137C的解释困惑!看到大家的帖子,终于放心一点了。

但是,在此,还是需要再次向大家求证。Prep137C的错误是因为reported这个词用错,而非,and it错,对吗?

期待NN给予明确答复啊!

关于这个run-on真的折磨我好久,一直没有找到最清晰、明确的解答。

Thanks nemo11,我在OG11橙色里面找到了关于run-on的定义。

但是,新的问题又来了。

大家看一下OG里面,列举的这个correct句子。

Run-on sentences: A run-on sentence is two independent clauses that run together without proper punctuation.

Examples:

Correct: “Jose Canseco is still a feared batter, most pitchers don’t want to face him.”

不是说逗号后面必须是从句/主句或者是带连词的并列句,不能两个主句并列;而分号前后才是完整句子吗?

如果是这样,那么OG举的这个例子就是不符合SC规范的啦?

晕了,恳请大家指证!

叩谢!

OG的example是錯的....
LZ看一下它的math review...一樣有錯....

hi,AlienX

你的意思就是OG上面这个例句是错的,对吧?

如果确认的话,真是让我放下一块心头大石!

同志们,又遇到一个疑似run-on的句子。在GWD题目里。

看了前人的讨论贴,还是没有给我明确的解答。希望大家继续讨论,期待NN答复!!!

GWD-18-2

According to findings derived from functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the area of the brain in which a second or third language is stored depends on the age of the language learner; whereas each language occupies a distinct area of the brain in an adult learner, language areas overlap in a young child.

  1. whereas each language occupies a distinct area of the brain in an adult learner,

  2. whereas for adults each language occupies a distinct area of the brain and

  3. each language occupies a distinct area of the brain when they are learned by an adult, while

  4. each language in adults occupied a distinct area of the brain, while

  5. each language occupying a distinct area of the brain for an adult learner, and

答案为A。但我选B.

前人讨论A正确的原因为:

;whereas S1+ V1, S2 + V2  http://forum.chasedream.com/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=23&replyID=1323883&id=142360&skin=0

虽然分号后面接完整句子,但是whereas与后面小孩一句中间是逗号,而没有连接词怎么还对呢?

难道可以理解为whereas作为第二句的链接词吗?即,language areas overlap in a young child, whereas each language occupies a distinct area of the brain in an adult learner.
