19. GWD30-Q19:
Industrial accidents are more common when some of the people in safety-sensitive jobs have drinking problems than when none do. Since, even after treatment, people who have had drinking problems are somewhat more likely than other people to have drinking problems in the future, any employer trying to reduce the risk of accidents should bar anyone who has ever been treated for a drinking problem from holding a safety-sensitive job.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the argument above?
A. Some companies place employees who are being treated for drinking problems in residential programs and allow them several weeks of paid sick leave.
B. Many accidents in the workplace are the result of errors by employees who do not hold safety-sensitive jobs.
C. Workers who would permanently lose their jobs if they sought treatment for a drinking problem try instead to conceal their problem and continue working for as long as possible.
D. People who hold safety-sensitive jobs are subject to stresses that can exacerbate any personal problems they may have, including drinking problems.
E. Some industrial accidents are caused by equipment failure rather than by employee error.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the argument offered in refutation of the environmentalists’ prediction?

In recent years, networks of fiber-optic cable have been replacing electrical wire for transmitting telecommunications signals. Signals running through fiber-optic cables deteriorate, and so the signals must be run through a piece of equipment called a regenerator before being transmitted farther. Light-Line is the leading manufacturer of signal regenerators. Therefore, Light-line is one of the companies that will most benefit if new long-distance fiber-optic telecommunications networks are constructed.
Which of the following, if true, casts the most doubt on the prediction about light-line’s prospects?
A. Telecommunications signals sent along electrical wires can travel much farther than signals transmitted through fiber-optic before needing to be regenerated.
B. Expanding its production of regenerators will require Light-Line to spend proportionately more on labor and materials.
C. The volume of signals that a fiber-optic cable can carry is several thousand times greater than the volume that can be carried by an electrical wire of similar size.
D. There are technologies that enable telecommunications signals to be transmitted without either wire or fiber-optic cable.
E. Several manufacturers are developing regenerator technologies that will allow signals to be transmitted many times farther than at present before requiring regeneration.
最近很郁闷,GWD每套总是要错2个逻辑题目,为什么总是不能全对呢? 还有一礼拜考试,大牛们有没有什么推荐的冲刺方法??
Employees who have Drinking Problems to hold safty-sensitive jobs.
Answer should be B. This question is not a hard one. The word undermine in the question stem means weaken. The most relevant chioce items are B and E. Since E uses the article "Some" while B uses "Many", the priority is given to B. D is not weakening but strengthening the argument. C is impertinent and A is only tenuously pertinent.
Refuting enviornmentalists' prediction that a certain turtle population will decline
B is correct. Numbers in the text are important. The chemical contaminated the beach five years ago. Should B's condition be taken into account, the increasing number of return-to-hatch turtles, since 5 years ago, is the number of the turtles hatched from the eggs 15-10 years ago. These turtles are unaffected by the chemical contamination. Therefore its increase is not the result of the contamination. Thus the refutation of enviornmentalists' prediction is undermined.
Other choice items are more or less impertinent.
Whether a company in the new optic telecommunications industry would benefit
The question addresses the classical topic of whether high demand will lead to benefits. The answer should be B. B idnetifies the problem of proportional increase in production cost which could keep profits from realizing. Since all of the text except the last sentence is describing facts, there's not much room for flaw picking in those lines. And if you read A, C, D, E carefully, you will find all of them off-topic.
