代词的指代是看逻辑指代，不是说前面有几个名词就是指代模糊。

这是独立主格吧 强调句尾复数名词characters 的每一个 its指代characters吧
    

Chinese是学科名词“汉语”，所以用单数表示，排除B C

主语Chinese + 同位语1修饰 Chinese + 谓语 Consists of + 宾语 ideographic characters + 同位语2 修饰 character

我觉得 its 直代 character

each character 重复ideographic characters, a miniature calligraphic composition inside its own square frame （修饰each character）

Choice A is best: the appositive terms character and composition, both singular, agree in number; both also agree with the singular possessive pronoun its. In all the other choices, this three-way agreement in number is violated.

个人觉得指代蛮明确的
