22. A recent national study of the public schools shows that there are now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were four years ago.
(A) there are now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were
(B) there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were
(C) there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many as there were
(D) every thirty-two pupils now have one microcomputer, four times as many than there were(C)
(E) every thirty-two pupils now has one microcomputer, four times as many as
答案是C. 但不明白最后为什么是WERE, 而不是WAS. 因为觉得FOUR TIMES AS MANY AS THERE WERE 补充完整的话应该是FOUR TIMES AS MANY AS THERE WAS ONE COMPUTER FOR EVERY XXXX PUPILS.

这道题别钻牛角尖。there were 的用法虽然是对的,但是可以不从这里考虑。
E肯定是错的。every thirty-two pupils now HAS是错的。那么正确的在另外4个里面。另外四个都是there were,不要考虑there were是正确还是错误。
one computer后面肯定是 is, 排除A.
as many than 错。排除b和d
剩下C,正确。
There were is right because:
Four years ago, every 32 pupils had less than one computer. In English, "was" is only used in front of integers. Having less than one computer for every 32 students results in a number with decimal point. Therefore, the sentence uses "there were". (My computer wouldn't type Chinese all of a sudden)
