B. exhibit, in turn an activation of

虽然在犹豫中选对了D，可是总觉得activate应该是activates啊...为什么呢？

这里activiate应该是跟touch并列而不是跟encourage并列作to的宾语。

另外选A逻辑意思有什么不同呢？请教

a active的主语就变成了exhibit，显然不合理啊

这是一个美国常见用法

and thereby 因而（前后主语一致）或者另结句子，

和and的用法一样，只不过有前面导致后面的关系

NYtimes的举例：

PRINCETON BEATS HARVARD.; AND
THEREBY WINS THE LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP.

MR. HILL CALLS A BLUFF.; AND
THEREBY SACRIFICES HIS CRACK TEAM OF ...

Mr GREVY REFUSES TO RESIGN; AND
THEREBY CAUSES GREAT EXCITEMENT.

我想

是不是thereby之前把visitors省略了？

如果说前面省略了to，是与touch并列，我还是有点不理解，就像其他tx一样，觉得encourage to activate有点怪~
