Smithtown University’s fund-raisers succeeded in getting donations from 80 percent of the potential donors they contacted. This success rate, exceptionally high for university fund-raisers, does not indicate that they were doing a good job. On the contrary, since the people most likely to donate are those who have donated in the past, good fund-raisers constantly try less-likely prospects in an effort to expand the donor base
The high success rate shows insufficient canvassing effort.

A. Smithtown University’s fund-raisers were successful in their contacts with potential donors who had never given before about as frequently as were fund-raisers for other universities in their contacts with such people.

B. This year the average size of the donations to Smithtown University from new donors when the university’s fund-raisers had contacted was larger than the average size of donations from donors who had given to the university before.

C. This year most of the donations that came to Smithtown University from people who had previously donated to it were made without the university’s fund-raisers having made any contact with the donors.

D The majority of the donations that fund-raisers succeeded in getting for Smithtown University this year were from donors who had never given to the university before.

E More than half of the money raised by Smithtown University’s fund-raisers came from donors who had never previously donated to the university.

请问为什么啊？这道题totally不理解！！ D为什么不对？

题干说的是，S这帮人的总体成功率高不代表他们nb,因为以前捐过的更容易再次捐款，nb的筹款人都是去尝试联系那些成功率更低的捐款人（也就是没捐过的）来拓宽这个捐款群体，（那么越nb的也就总体成功率越低），总体成功率高的（像S这样的）说明找软柿子捏了。所以A说，如果让S这帮人也去联系那些没捐过的人捐款，他们的成功率也和其他人一样(successful as frequently as).

D totally反了,S搞成功的大多数都是软柿子...我想你题干肯定读懂了，只是A选项确实有点搞...找不到正确选项的时候就把读起来最拗口的那个选项再多读几遍，一般就是那个了...

在说一遍。题干：S的整体成功率高，那是因为他们专门找那些比较容易成功的人（曾经捐过的人）来联系了，A: 如果让他们去联系难成功的（没捐过的人），成功率也和其他人一样（不高）

Rpd=success rate of getting previous donor to donate, Rnd=success rate of getting new donor, Rt=overall success rate, %pd=no. of previous donor/total contact pool,

Rt=Rpd*%pd+Rnd*(1-%pd)=(Rpd-Rnd)*%pd+Rnd, 如果S的Rnd和别人一样，而Rt高，那么可能是Rpd高或者是%pd高，支持了%pd高的结论。

其实很简单：

题干在讲好的募捐者的标准是扩大BASE(不是筹了多少钱）。

只有A在讲成功比例，

BCED都在讲钱数，于标准无关。例子中如果队伍（联系或不联系2个队伍）有个类似比尔盖茨的牛人，捐一下就成了，但不代表募捐者工作做的好

如果觉得A很绕的话就把括号里跳过不读，然后发现讲的是 Smithtown University’s fund-raisers were successful as frequently as fund-raisers for other universities 。那就是说这个S大学的并没有比别人更努力吖，因为在跟那些不怎么捐的人联系时成功率并不比别人高

这是个很典型的用总体规律去deduce 个体的现象的，这类题多数的选项都是说，个体的特征服从于整体
整体的特征就是 On the contrary, since the people most likely to donate are those who have donated in the past, good fund-raisers constantly try less-likely prospects in an effort to expand the donor base，作者相当于用了一个整体性的common sense 去支持他对个体现象的判断This success rate, exceptionally high for university fund-raisers, does not indicate that they were doing a good job.
这就要说明该学校和其他学校一样是符合mainstream 的A选项就是这个意思

prospects是try的宾语，其本意有“潜在顾客”之意，这里指“潜在捐献者”；less-likely是形容词，做prospects的定语，连起来就是不太可能成为潜在目标的捐献者。所以这句话总体翻译为：好的fund-raisers通常会致力于寻求（游说）不太可能成为潜在捐献者的人试图去扩大捐献者的基础总量。这句话理解了该题应该就能明白逻辑含义。

CDE都说这批人在某程度上都说服了never given 的donor，说明他们的确牛B，削弱。
B平均数概念对说明问题无帮助
正确答案A这批人和其他学校的人在关于说服never given 的donor去捐钱这件事上效用是一样的·说明他们没啥特出·牛B个屁·加强·

我加一句，题目最后要强调的是“S大学从new donor那边得到的钱少”，B，C，D和E都说“S大学从new donor那边得到的钱多”，所以“错”。就这么简单！

也就是要去找没有捐过钱的人，并且成功率低才行么，那A只是说他们和其他大学的人一样成功，并不能表示成功率低啊
