上述主句中的, and hence the bonding, ,这是一个什么用法呀?
作为插入语吗?
因为我发现如果并列作为主语的话,那么后面的is effected就不应该为单数呀?

请多多指教呀!

it is good question! I admire that you research OG so deeply. I think that it is 插入语."hence" means " for this reason", if you check OXFIRD ADVANCED 4TH, you will find the example. another reason is that "contact" and " bonding" cannot be effected together.

如果作为插入语的话,那么直接把and去掉就可以了!

为什么这边还有一个连词and呀?
我查了一下词典,and作为连词的14种用法中没有这种做为插入语的语法!
还请多指教!

我的理解是，”and hence“ means “and then”, contact 和 bonding 是一个东西来的，就好像说原来是contact, 后来它是bonding, 所以谓语是单数形式。

我觉得是插入语，作补充说明。hence在这里代表了contact 和 bonding 之间的一种逻辑关系。缺hence肯定是不行的。
如果缺and,变成了hence the bonding, 作为插入语，感觉不是很通顺，我手上现在没带语法书，不知道hence是否可引起一个短语来作插入语的。觉得hence后面似乎应该加句子的

这个结构的确比较奇怪呀!

我又查了一下hence的用法,也没有能引导此类插入语的结构.

然后我在GMAT, GRE 和 LSAT的阅读中找到了如下几个例子:

The restraint on alienation vastly increased the amount of work, and hence the budgets, necessary to implement the statute.

It should be noted, however, that these numbers ignore the effect of the tax on economic growth, and hence on emissions, and assume that past responses to a price rise will be replicated in the future.

Without this relationship, and hence without the property, the entity would be different—and so would be another entity. Thus, the property is one of the entity’s defining characteristics.

从以上几个例子来看,
and在此作为连接表并列关系仍然没有问题.
而hence在这边的用法很奇怪,我个人感觉是表递进关系,有点像then的意思.
但由于and hence前后是用逗号隔开,虽然表示与前面的并列,但是作为一种插入语的形式.
(因为如果不作为插入语的话,那么逗号完全可以去掉而与前面的结构直接连接)
所以,对后面谓语并未产生影响.
后面动词的形式仍然有and hence前面的结构来决定.

请大家多多指教.

you are right. I asked a Canadian editor of a magazine about this quetion. she said that " and hence bonding" explained the "contact", it could be taken out, but the meaning was same.
