同志们看看，

Unlike using spices for cooking, in medicinal usage they are taken in large quantities in order to treat particular maladies.

A.Unlike using spices for cooking, in medicinal usage they are taken

B.Unlike spices that are used in cooking, in using spices for medicine, they are taken

C.Unlike cooking with spices, taking spices for medicinal usage use is done

D.In cooking, small quantities of spices are used, whereas in medicinal usage spices are taken

E.In cooking, the usage of spices is in small quantities, whereas in medicinal usage they are taken

正确答案是D，我知道这个应该是合适的。可是请教同志们C为什么不正确呢？

cooking with spices于taking spices for medicinal usage平行，跟在unlike后面，动名词做名词。我感觉比D更加简洁啊

我也有同样的问题。

prep破解版的注释是说Unlike后面不能跟doing，这个讲法值得商榷。OG11版语法练习的前言里面（P632）对于As/like 的解释里明确提到like可以跟ing形式As不可以“Like is generally used as a preposition, and therefore is followed by a noun, an object pronoun, or a verb ending in‘ing'” 并给出例句 “There's nothing like biking on a warm, autumn day.”

再来看一道OG11的题目P658 T122：

More than 30 years ago Dr. Barbara McClintock, the Mobel Prize winner, reported that genes can "jump," as pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another.

A.as pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another

B.like pearls moving mysteriousely from one necklace to another

C.as pearls do that move mysteriousely from one necklace to others

D.like pearls do that move mysteriousely from one necklace to others

E.as do pearls that move mysteriousely from one necklace to some other one

最佳选项是B。

like 可以跟，unlike 为什么就不能跟 doing 了呢。所以C不对是不是应该有别的理由呢？

我语法不好,但说说自己的看法.

1cooking with spices和2taking spices for medicinal逻辑意思真的对等吗?

我感觉这个题是比较作饭用香料和医药用香料,重点比较的是香料在各自方面的...

大家觉的呢,所以,1和2不是很对等啊

D的比较侧重点就相同了

吃好饭再来看看还发现C有个致命伤：in large quantities 是形容可数名词的，D的主语spices复数 are taken in large quantities，很对；C的主语是动名词，不可数 taking spices for medicinal usage is done in large quantities，很错。

个人认为

like有2种用法，一个是比喻的like，像什么，就好像act like a fool

还有一个是对比like a, b do something.

当用来对比2个东西时，如果用Like A doing something, B doing 等是否换成As从句或者while,whereas对照更为简洁呢？

当用比喻时，like就不能用as等代替了，所以og11-122题一定要用的like

此题

不是说正如pearls能神秘的从一个项链到另一个，Genes can "jump"

而是说Genes can "jump"，像pearls从一个项链move到另一个一样.

第一个正如指某个确定存在的事，第二个指比喻虚拟的事

不知道说地对不对，或者说清楚没有

C怎么看都觉得是把cooking这件事儿和taking这件事儿比，这两个逻辑上不能比吧,

B的错误应该是逻辑主语的问题因为in using中， using逻辑主语成了spices 语义有问题

感觉E中they的指代不清是和D比较才能看的出来的，因为前一个句子的主语usage是单数，所以只能指代spices和quantities，虽然我也觉得不可能会指quantities，但是根据就近原则还是有可能的，尤其是D明确了用spices，肯定比E要好。

另外我觉得E还有一个不好的地方就是主句用的是are taken，那前面就好就是相同的结构，D就符合，E不好，虽然这个理由不是很有说服力，但在这里这样理解也没有问题。

那个OG11的例子。。。那个跟prep那道还是有区别的,那个是like pearls doing...而prep那道是like doing，两者有明显区别，前面的可以把doing看成修饰pearls，但是如果直接doing的话，就是直接那动作了，注解说要接n.，应该就是这意思吧...

对比突出的是‘量’small/large quantities，d选项突出了这一点，比较的对象是平等的。

还有B选项，答案说排除B选项的原因是因为: in using短语既可以修饰前一个分句,又可以修饰后一个分句,造成修饰歧意.
但是前面分句已经说used in cooking，从句意来说后面的in using..就只能是修饰后句了。
我认为排除B的原因是in using..for...没有直接in medicinal usage简介。不知道对不对····

（按照C项的意思，是把cooking with spices和taking spices for medicinal usage这两件事做比较。而这样是和“unlike后面只能接简单名词结构”这个规则相抵触的）

D.In cooking, small quantities of spices are used, whereas in medicinal usage spices are taken
（正确）

E.In cooking, the usage of spices is in small quantities, whereas in medicinal usage they are taken
（usage是用法，使用方法的意思，不能被说成in small quantities吧？另外they的指代不清）

實義動詞take被換成do,不對；而且意思也說不通。

另外可能需要區分-ing分詞做定語，還是跟在介詞後面。

IN USING..... 这个分句可以做状语修饰UNLIKE.....这个分句这样就是 SPICES THAT... 和IN USING.... 比较，概念不对等

you can’t say "verbING is done..." for any verb. Moreover, “large quantities” doesn't seem to apply to the spices themselves, because the spices are no longer the subject of that construction. Choice E ‘in small quantities’ and ‘they are taken’ are not parallel, ‘they’ can refer to both spices and small quantites, and ‘the usage is in small quantities’ could mean that you don't use spices very often, but, when you do, you dump 14 kilos of allspice and 12 kilos of paprika in your pan.

ABE的错误均在于they无指代。
D的错误在于unlike，like后面只能接名词或名词短语，不能接动名词，抽象名词还有句子。
至于楼主问的那个问题，like pearls doing.doing是后置定语还是什么的，是用来形容pearls的，所以是没有问题的。
