Google了一下, 舊的Kaplan有這一題, 它的answer是A.

我倾向选A,通过看不同的颜色来看这些沉积层的

be able to do是有能力做什么，感觉这是强加进来的意义

我也觉得应该是A。不仅是意义问题，D后面with引导的貌似一个独立主格结构，但又不是做状语的。

答案: D

时态: have的出现标志了现在完成式,排除B.

现在分词修饰歧义: E中的marking的修饰对象不明确, 存在歧义, 可能修饰canyon. 可能修饰seen, 做伴随动作. 所以排除.

代词指代: A中的that mark中that指代不明确. 因为可以指代colors, 也可以指代layers.

注意Ｄ中been able to 完全没有任何错误，不论是逻辑上还是语法上．后面的with是独立主格结构，所以marking是现在分词．
