标题: [求助]GWD11-3的逻辑到底搞不明白,请NN帮忙

Scientists have made genetic modifications to cotton to increase its resistance to insect pests. According to farmers’ report, the amount of insecticide needed per acre to control insect pests was only slightly lower for those who tried the modified seed than for those who did not. Therefore, since the modified seed costs more than ordinary seed without producing yields of higher market value, switching to the modified seed would be unlikely to benefit most cotton farmers economically.

Which of the following would it be most useful to know in order to evaluate the argument?

A. Whether farmers who tried the modified cotton seed had ever tried growing other crops from genetically modified seed.

答案在B和E里面徘徊,可是我不明白B明显是错误的:把COTTON和OTHER CROPS比较有什么意义吗?本问讨论的只是用了新种子的和用旧种子的COTTON的比较,那么OTHER CROPS不是无关词吗?

而E Whether most of the farmers who tried the modified seed did so because they had previously had to use exceptionally large quantities of insecticide.

而文中明确说 According to farmers’ report, the amount of insecticide needed per acre to control insect pests was only slightly lower for those who tried the modified seed than for those who did not.

那么E选项就没有意义啊,因为即使旧的种子需要量很大,但是用了新的种子之后这种情况并不能大幅度的得到改善,因此就是无关选项啊!

E,用了新种子的农民是那些以前用大量杀虫剂的农民，他们用了之后虽然比其他农民还是需要差不多的杀虫剂，但是比自己以前已经少用很多了，所以新种子还是管用的。

这道题我最初也选的是E，当时觉得B答案当中的 other crops.不能和modified seeds完全等同。但后来认为：other crops包括modified seed，因此可以作为题干的评价

相反，对于E当中“农民想换modified的种子是不是因为他们以前用了更多的农药”无法对题干“modified的种子是否具有经济可行性”进行正面或者负面的评价。

所以选B

通过改善基因能够提高棉花抵抗虫害的能力。基因改善种子每英亩所耗费的杀虫剂只比未使用改善种子的少一点儿。由于改善种子比普通种子成本更高，而前者并不能产生更高的市场价值，所以改种改善种子并不能使多数棉农获得经济上的利益。
答案B：那些用在普通棉花上的杀虫剂是否比用在其他作物的杀虫剂更贵。如果是，则还是转用改良种子好。改良的与普通的对立，应该包括在其他作物的范畴里。
注意“普通”这个词

若然，尽管平均小幅下降，对于选用者个体来说，是大幅下降，经济收益良多。
若不然，则选用者个体确无多少收益。
知道此情况可判断推理可靠与否，选之。

个人认为，B较E而言，更直白的表现出改用改良种子这一决策对于经济效益的意义。同意4楼MM的说法。。。
