到底怎么判定代词指代在GMAT。那位NN有总结呀，我总是判断不准确。

我觉得这题的A是这样的，未划线后的句子后部分的they were developed more than 50 years ago.中they 指代pollutants，而划线中的they我认为确实指代Industrialization and modern methods ，但整句句子来看，造成了时代不清。

以下引自《白勇语法总结by遥远的绿洲(CD)》

1 代词it/this/that都不能指代整个句子;代词it/this/that不能单独充当主语,必须加上名词才能作主语

2 避免指代不清,修改的方法有三个:

1)重复代词指代的对象

2)用such + n.或者指示代词this/these/those + n.代替代词

3)用一个名词概括代词指代的对象

代词一致原则:相同的代词指代对象要一致

首先说明一下while+(at the same time)+doing 是固定用法，这用法的前提是while 前后主语一致，则while后的主语省略，用doing. 所以划线的they肯定是Industrialization and modern methods , 而后面没划线的they 也指Industrialization and modern methods ，理由是一整句话中的相同代词只可指代同一事物，为得是避免造成指代不清。

这道题目给我的感觉不是很舒服诶，感觉have gone virtually... since they were developed more than 50 years ago.中的they和这句话的主语应该一直才对啊，应该都是指前面的Industrialization and modern methods...，要不然句子里的代词跳过从句主语去修饰那么远的东东。。。不舒服

ps：怎么判断是methods还是pollutants go unregulated呀，我选了E（估计钻牛角尖了这题，但出不来了）感觉就是having是做延伸修饰前面整句话的（but at the same time introduce some 100,000 dangerous chemical pollutants），然后句子本身是在说methods　ｕｎｒｅｇｕｌａｔｅｄ，这要比较有逻辑。。。

代词不一定在一句话中只能指代一个词的，ＢＹ的说法太绝对了。。

In answer choice (A) the modifier having does not clearly describe the pollutants. 这么看来这道题中的they就有两个指代了，第一个指代Methods,第二个指代pollutants.

标题: they not refer to Industrialization and modern methods but pollutants
To me a structure of the sentence has the following logic:

Industrialization and modern methods...have improved the standard of living...while introducing dangerous chemical pollutants...[polutants] have gone unregulated since they (pollutants) were developed...

using 2/3 rule:
While vs. but - While wins. so we can eliminate D&E
In C "which" modifies time
A says that "Industrialization and methods of insects contorol..having gone (sounding awkward at least) unregulated." I think the meaning is distorted.

So B wins.

while后面的主谓应该省略了吧，I&M have improved the living standard while (they are) introducing 。。。。, prep 2007 中有写“while 引导从句时,如主从句的主语一致,且从句谓语又含有 be,则从句主语和 be 可省略。while 后可
直接跟现在分词、名词、形容词或介词短语。”

同意这样的说法~~怎么能很肯定地判断出go unregulated 的对象时methods or pollutants? confused......

while和at the same time 不重复，因为在这里while只表示in the contrast的意思，表转折，并不是“同时的”意思。

while在这里表示转折不是与此同时的意思，
