答案是d，但个人觉得it指代有问题，因为chirps是复数
E 中的serving (表结果)我觉得逻辑上满通的，不选它是不是因为possibly修饰serving有问题

possibly和in fact有冲突. 改变句子意思.

it 指 the
number of chirps，但是你说的也没错，外国论坛也是认为it有指代不清问题。
就如楼上说的：原本意思是说 it can实际能做到，而E改成有可能

-感谢两位，关于情态动词不能随便更改或者添加这条规则还是有效的，根据sc出题精神，如果更改了句子的意思应该是
正确性错误。
-另外就是我提到的关于possibly serving这种修饰方式的正确性问题，serving是分词用adv修饰正确吗，我再贴一道prep
的题

正确答案是c，但请注意A中 when retiring completely 也是分词+adv的格式。两道题都出现现分+adv的情况，到底这种修饰正确吗，大家讨论一下

大家好像对prep的题讨论没啥兴趣，要知道考试的题目很接近prep,个人感觉prep是OG的升级版，而GWD有时候会误导一些规则的使用，用俗话说就是路子有点野。再顶

我觉得文法上应该是没错

The "it can" means it is, really, while "possibly" means it might.
重点可能是在这个字can跟possibly
因为can可以表达「能力」或是「可能」，此题是前者。

还是it的指代问题如果指代number, 那么就是the number.....,and the number...

我们平时说 it helps me and encourages her. 而不说It helps me ,and it encourages her.

这个地方既然两个分句都是一样的主语为什么要重复呢？

D中的it如果指代number的话，那么如何解释呢？number是可以用来当作温度计？？？？？？很奇怪啊，应该是这个变化的特性可以被当作温度计来使用吧。。。。

when retiring completely 其实是when somebody retires completely 所以实质是用adv修饰动词
