As an OBA Alum of the School, I receive some messages from the School from time to time and I hope the following will be useful for the fellow CDers, if they are interest in comming to Oxford.
I have recently joined the Said Business School, and I am currently reviewing the important area of scholarships within the school and how we can grow the level and range of financial support that we can offer prospective MBA students here at the University of Oxford.
I am developing a school-wide policy on which we aim to develop and increase our portfolio of scholarships and therefore increase our ability to attract the very best students to the Said Business School.
I have attached a link to a survey that should only take 5 minutes to complete, asking just 9 questions, and ask that you take a moment of your time to complete it by the 2nd of June, this will greatly help us to assess the type of awards we should offer, that appeal and that will enable us to move forward in developing and improving our Scholarship and Award activities.
For further details on our current Scholarship and Award portfolio please visit: http://www.sbs.ox.ac.uk/MBA/fees/scholarships

[attachimg]65155[/attachimg]

Message from the Dean
To SBS Graduate Students and Alumni,
I am delighted to report that, after an extensive search and recruitment process, the Saïd Business School has appointed Derek Walker as Director of its Careers Service. Derek is currently Director of Campus Recruitment at Barclays Capital and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the School. He will provide outstanding leadership of the School’s first rate careers team. I am sure that you will wish to join me in welcoming Derek when he joins the School on 27th October. In the meanwhile, Grant Phillips has kindly agreed to continue to act as Director of the Careers Service. .
I am also writing to inform you that Nathalie Walker has been appointed as the Head of Cambridge University’s Alumni Relations. This is a very important role and a great compliment to Nathalie that she has been appointed to such a senior position. Sadly it means that she will be vacating her current post as Head of the School’s Alumni Relations. Nathalie has made a tremendous contribution to the development of the School’s alumni relations and I am very grateful to her for the immense amount of work that she has put into it.
We have engaged the Perrett Laver Partnership to help us search for Nathalie's successor. Clio Wood is leading their team and will make contact with several members of the School, students and alumni about the appointment. She would be pleased to hear directly from any of you who have views on the appointment, an interest in the post or suggestions of appropriate candidates. Her e-mail is clio@perrettlaver.com. The post will be advertised in mid-September and, in the meanwhile, Grant Phillips will head the alumni relations office until Nathalie's successor joins us.
I very much look forward to seeing many of you at the Oxford Alumni Weekend on 19, 20 and 21st September and at the OBA dinner on 19th September.
With kind regards
Colin

Dear Friends,
Projects Update
Seasons Greetings from Oxford !
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a joyful festive season and I am also delighted to announce that we are now accepting project briefs for the Strategic Consulting Project (SCP) 2009.
Upon receipt and approval of your project brief, student teams will be asked to register their interest in the projects offered. Project sponsors will then be invited to review the list of proposed teams, including a team CV, and submit your final selection to the Projects Office. Student teams will then be assigned to projects based upon the preference ranking given from both company and student.
As in previous years, the SCP is a team-based project which most students will undertake, focusing on strategic issues within organisations locally, nationally or globally. It is scheduled for 8 weeks in July and August, and enables students to extend their learning into the business environment before graduation. The goal is for students to prove their ability to work in teams in a completely new setting, to apply their course learning and experience, and prove they can deliver value within a short timeframe.
Organisations can use the skills of teams to:
· focus a fresh approach on an issue facing the organisation
· help define in detail a project to address the issue
· draw up specific schedules and budgets for the project
· successfully see the project to a conclusion and deliver recommendations that are innovative, creative and practical.
Organisations that participate in this scheme get many benefits, including:
· an additional staff resource that is experienced but economical
· a team that can bring to bear a multi-disciplinary, multi-functional and often multi-cultural approach
· access to the academic and research strengths of a top class business school through the student teams
As most of you have first-hand experience of the SCP we would welcome your thoughts and suggestions regarding new projects, so if you have an idea for a suitable strategic consulting project, we would love to hear from you.
To assist you with this process I have attached a project brief template, which you should complete and return to Alison Gestra, Projects Officer, Alison.gestra@sbs.ox.ac.uk
I look forward to hearing from you, in the meantime if you do have any queries regarding projects, please do not hesitate to contact Alison Gestra (telephone 01865 288874).
Kind Regards,
Christopher McKenna
