这个题目好象是个争议题，一直没见定论，建议查一查讨论帖子

B的意思是有问题的

个人认为答案应该是D。原因如下：

A
gave错，应该是give。平行结构Not only did 主语+动词原形 and 动词原形

B
but also后面缺少主语。平行结构Not only did 主语，but also 主语。

C
but also后面前面缺少句子，全部都是名词性的。

D
对！
The clearing of something created ... and gave ..., but it also ...
这句句子不必非要套用 not only but also 结构。

E
not only后面没应该有but also配合。
正确结构：the clearing not only created, giving ..., but also gave...
