标题: USC很不安全?

昨天给我的美国老板写信说被USC录了,然后他回信说道:

One word of caution, however.  It is in a very rundown and crime ridden area of Los Angeles .  So be extra cautious when outside the confines of the campus itself.  I don’t want to sound overly cautious, but you should be aware of it, and should ask the school to assist in ensuring that you are aware of the surrounding areas.

看起来很可怕,有没有了解情况的xdjm出来验证一下?

Your boss' comments are very accurate. It's true, the surrounding area in USC is really run-down. If you compare the campus environment to UCLA, it's would be comparing paradise and hell.

well, thought I am not currently in USC, I've visited it many many times and my best friend is now studying there. Generally speaking, it is not a good place to live, especially its surrounding area. Houses are old and dirty, streets noisy and crowdy (well, surely, never as crowdy as china), and my friend sometimes hears gunshots around the corner. However, you dont have to live close to campus - there are public transportation and school shuttles, and you can drive (traffic sucks and parking fee ridiculously high though). Also there are numerous Chinese ppl and they seem to be fine. A plus for LA is that it has very authentic chinese resteraunts, and cheap!

Be careful when you look for housing, south to campus is more dangerous.

这个学校富家子弟的传说貌似很多  但是大多是读小本的

USC位置不是LA最好的  比UCLA差一些

呵呵  不过它家招的学生都是相当不错的

都是有钱人,当然不错。学校里开的party应该不错的。

i've been living out of USC campus for years. my wife got rubbed one day at noon time, her bag was rubbed. an important textbook was in the bag 3 days before the final. We still hate the place. we kept buying bikes and kept losing them due to the thefts in the area.

oh...really. It reminds me of Guangzhou.  But I think this is part of metro city life. Though there is dark side, it cannot stop many ppl falling in love with USC.

I think the biggest problem with going to USC is that you will ALWAYS be looked down upon by people from UCLA and UC Berkeley. There is no way around that. No matter what USC says otherwise, it's a less prestigious school than LA or Berkeley. Just look at UCLA's location, it's gorgeous! People who live in California all know that people who get into USC is because they can't get into UCLA or Berkeley. It's the same thing with UC Irvine or Davis, most people go there because they can't get into USC, UCLA, or Berkeley.
