标题: Minor in Math or Finance?
Hi,guys

I want to apply for a Ph.D in Finance in 2008. However, I never had a finance degree before.

My profile is like this:
GRE: 790 Q, 600 V, 4
MS in Agricultural Economics (Finance Concentration) (US)
GPA:4.0/4.0
No paper right now
Math courses: I only have Calculus on the official transcript, even I took linear algebra, probabilities, game theory etc. in the training for a math contest. BTW, I got the first place award in the National Mathematical Contest in Modeling.
Finance(Econ) courses: Financial Management, Corporate Finance, Econometrics, Linear Programming, Micro, Macro
I have three semesters before graduation. I want to get a minor in math or finance to make my background look strong. Which minor will help me more? Thanks.

谢谢darcie，还有一个问题，我现在在农业经济系，所以给本系的老师做RA。你的意思是我需要转系到finance，做RA, 同时 math minor 吗？

econometric&statisitc.that is the basic tools of finance. U don't need to know too much about finance. If ur BS. GPA is also high and u can obtain several good recommendation letters, u can aim to 30- 50 schools and severl 50-100

我也不是很熟悉啦，应该不需要转系的，RA应该是可以申请的，当然也要老师要你啦

Thanks. I had econometrics last semester. I am the first year MS. My BS is in another unrelated field. So what kind of stat. courses should I take?

try to take the stat/math/econometrics/micro in the 1st year curriculum in the Finance PhD program in your current school

get good grades and send credible signals that you can survive at least the 1st year in a PhD program
