Got offers from HBS and Yale almost at the same time yesterday.
The whole agonizing application process is finally over.
Thanks everyone on this forum and best of luck to you all!
Background: M / 26 / G750 T112 / top uni in Shanghai GPA 3.6 / 3.5yr WE @ MC, including 0.5 yr secondment in Boston
Interview tips:
R2 Hub interview in shanghai with Pam Ralston (associate admission director), she was amazingly nice! (people said HBS adcoms are trained not to give any hints about your performance, which is good I think)
Unlike other schools who talk to candidates one by one without stops, HBS takes 10min pre-reading before the interview and 30min to write your report after the interview (according to ladies at the hotel reception), which means they understand your background pretty well so that you don't need to go through those obvious introduction again.
Questions as far as I remember:
1) Tell me about yourself whenever / wherever you want to start
2) Tell me any of your recent leadership examples (this Q takes 10 mins with lots of follow-up Qs)
3) Who's your favourite leader? Why? What do you learn from him/her? How does it reflect to your work?
4) Any failure / regret in your life? (I lost myself in this Q. So she asked me to summarize what I've learnt from this exp.)
5) Why do you need an MBA given that you can learn almost everything from a consulting firm?
6) What's the biggest challenge you would face at HBS?
7) Do you think you can survive in the HBS class where case method is used?
8) What's the biggest risk I would take if I recommend you to the admission board? (I didn't expect this Q, so I 急中生智说 maybe too many consultants with the same background as myself already got admitted to HBS, so I might be less diversified. Pam said we would admit people as long as we think he/she is qualified...good to know)
9) What happend to you before you came to the interview today? (I did not expect this Q either, so I said I was really nervous last night, but feel much better now when talking to you)
10) Let's talk about your hobby (I mentioned I like photography in my essay). What are the suggestions you would give to a person like me who does not know anything about camera. (Again, this is the Q I did not expect, but like very much)
11) Any questions? (it was already 35min, so I only asked one I carefully prepared, and asked her if anyone has asked the similar questions, she said yes...orz)
Finally I left the meeting room relaxed, with a Harvard brand ballpen.
I've gained a lot from CD since I decided to apply 7 months ago. Hope it helps people who will be struggling as I was.
大牛的沙发一定要做!
