标题: Offer from Chicago GSB

Got the phone call and the application changed from 'waitlist' into 'admit'.

It is extremely hard to make a decision, but I think I will go Chicago.

99% people said they won't choose Chicago if they were in my situation. It seems Darden is perfect, but I just couldn't resist Chicago and don't know why...

Come on, Chicago has outstanding academic reputation worldwide. It's always one of my dream schools. The only reason I didn't apply is because the freezing weather

Congratulations!!! I personally think that it is much harder to get off the waitlist than to be admitted on the decision release date, coz you gotta first compete against other candidates in your round and then compete against ppl in the later round. Well done!

Darden is a very good school as i have visited both Chicago and Darden in my interviews. and here is my two cents:

Chicago: great school, great academics, great career future, great people, but poor surroundings and cold weather. i went there in Nov and it is just the start of winter from nov to may.

Darden: all very good, the facility is fantastic and you cannot find another place that has such great environment and mild weather. (i lived in Virginia for several months)

however, i like the chicago style more than darden, coz for the former, it is down to earth and engaging, and the latter, it is a bit too elegant that conveys an air of arrogance.

No doubt, I love Chicago more, even with the unpleasant weather.

For me, the dilemma is whether it is worthy to give up Darden's full-tuition scholarship + $1000 deposit and take $100,000 loan for Chicago....

From my experience in Chicago GSB, I never regretted choosing it and if I could have another chance to choose, I would defenitely choose Chicago again. Before you coming here, you can never imagin how good this school is. The modern building, the super supportive faculty, especially the career service, the beautiful city, the helpful almni, let along its reputation and strong academic education.

Money is not a problem. You can get loan without a co-signer very easily. You will realize the scholarship won't make a difference after you find your dream job, which is not unrealistic and has been proved years after years here.

As to the weather, it could be a good thing. Many students here went skiing every weekend. To be honest, during the coldest days of first year, you will be busy with recruiting and the cold weather can just calm you down and focus on your interview preparation.

I can't say you wouldn't regret if you missed other schools, but I can assure you won't regret if you choose GSB.

Big Congs!! But it's truly hard to decide, considered the full-tuition from Darden. My LG applied for Chicago R2 and it's a wonderful school. But in fact the $100,000 loan will be quite a burden later.

Don't let the loan bother you too much. You should know you can easily make more than $100,000 in the first year after graduation. Then multiply that by the number of years left in your career. The reality is, you only get to live once and you only gonna take one MBA (in most cases, and definitely the case here)! I believe you've made the right choice. Congrads!

Even with 200K scholarship from darden, I would not choose darden over chicago . If there are other factors, that's a different story.

200k scholarship is a lot of money...depends on your career goal. If finance is what you want, then go to Chicago, which is the BEST mba finance, even better than Wharton (no offense to Wharton aspirants).If general management is your goal, then I don't see why giving up Darden..

anyway, you have strong background and will be successful whichever school you choose. Good luck

First of all, Darden is also a great school. I have a friend who got great intern offers too.
However, keep in mind that Chicago is relatively less torturing than the school in Virginia, which offers a case based program.
Don't get me wrong. You can still work hard here in Chicago, but it all depends on you, meaning that you make your choices for trading off certain things

Yes sure, Darden IS great indeed. Actually I do feel terrified by Darden's case based program and its heavy workload.

In Chicago, at least I have alternative choices. But I'd better not show too much mercy to myself... Otherwise, those employers will not show too much mercy to me as well when I look for a job...
