(A) if they did not hold it, their grip on Algeria was always insecure

(B) without it their grip on Algeria would never be secure

(D) without that, they could never be secure about their grip on Algeria

(E) never would their grip on Algeria be secure if they did not hold it

答案选C，是由于if条件从句的问题，这个理由我很赞同。但是C里面，将原题的always insecure--》not ever secure ，虽然意思也差不多，但是好么？

另外，关于条件从句，我的总结（白勇说的）怎么跟有一道题目有冲突呢？也请教一下。

与现在事实相反：从句的谓语动词用过去时（be一律用were），主句用should（一）/would（二、三）/could/might+动词原形
与过去事实相反：从句的谓语动词用had+过去分词，主句用should（一）/would（二、三）/could/might+have+动词原形
与将来事实相反：从句的谓语动词用should+动词原形，主句用should（一）/would（二、三）/could/might+动词原形

答案选E，可是E怎么用can不用could呢？

我觉得选最佳的答案就好了，不用考虑答案本身到底有多好

关于第二题，忠于原文的话就用can了

我觉得还是别太钻牛角尖了~~~~
