Sorry I made some mistake in posting the thread.

I got an ad from management science and engineering department in Stanford. However, my ultimate goal is to apply to finance PhD program so I want to know whether this program can do much help. If this program is not good enough, there is still possibility that I can transfer to statistics after getting to Stanford, though I cannot guarantee the success. At least I can take some courses in statistics and economics, also finance.

The tuition is expensive. I need about $60,000 to get in and I cannot guarantee the further funding (there maybe some open TA positions). My family is just an ordinary one in Beijing and if my parents pay this amount of money for me their budget will be tight in the future, which is not what I want. I am considering applying a loan and I want to know whether this ad is worth for me to put myself into such a risk.

I really appreciate any kind of suggestion and wish the best future for all.

I forgot to mention that what I got is an MS, not PhD. I want to use it as preparation.

I guess this kind of master's degress is for those who want to work after graduation. Of course you can take some stat and econ courses at the same time, but I am not sure how much it is going to help. You may want to talk to people who were or are in that program to see how they feel about your plan.

I am already in US so I don't need visa as long as I don't leave US. (I remember this point when I attended orientation of my current university, which I am not sure whether I understand correctly).
