A中的Based on accounts of various ancient writers不能修饰主句的动词have painted吗？是不是所有的过去分词短语都不能做状语？

A选项还原后变成scholars were based on....。这边用被动语态是不合适的。

我知道og的解释是这样的，但是为什么不能还原成scholars have painted....based on.....？即based on修饰painted？

Agree with Crusader. The only exception I am aware of is "considering" or "regarding" because they are not "v+ing".

我来做补充举几个例子
有些特定动词的动名词,在现代英语已经改变了词性进化为连词和(或者)介词来引导从句.
Considering
Considering the strength of the opposition, we did very well to score two goals.
I think we paid too much for the house, considering that we needed to get the roof repaired.
John did quite well in his exams, considering how little he studied.
Regarding
Regarding your recent inquiry, I have enclosed a copy of our new brochure.
Concerning
The police are anxious for any information concerning the woman's whereabouts.
We have several questions concerning the report.
Granted
Granted, the music is not perfect, (but)the flaws are outweighed by the sheer joy of the piece. （BUT省略Granted做连词引导从句，BUT不省略Granted做adj）

特意查了查大学语法，“分词作状语分词在句子中作状语，可以表示时间、条件、原因、结果、让步、伴随等。分词做状语时，它的逻辑主语与句子的主语一致。作状语的分词相当于一个状语从句。”，原来以为的状语就像副词那样修饰谓语呢，这样一说才明白，虽然高手们英语很棒，可是也应该把中文说明白是吧。你这样一说弄得我都不敢问问题了，不过好在我脸皮厚。

是不是就可以了？

分词（过去，现在）做壮语时，主语一致时要省略，不一致时要补全。这是考点。

you cannot use 'basing on ...', it's always wrong for me. think this way 'who bases on whom???' it' s not logical
