from the compressors into the main part of the store.D 注意，此处的then副词做连词用。

答案是A，我选的D，我的问题是D有什么问题，是不应该有AND吗，我记得XDF曾经说过n个元素并列时，n大于2，x1，x2，x3，andx4，是这个错误吗

正确答案是D，我选了C，这道题我有如下几个问题

1.A和E中，是不是after。。。he reached的时态有错误？

2. On being asked
to describe the new discovery of the island of Hispaniola (now Haiti) by Queen
Isabella，是不是有new discovery。。。by queen的歧义
3.也就是我为什么把两道题放一起的原因：在第一道题的正解A中，我觉得then起到的是连词的作用，连接两个步骤，虽然then是副词;但是到了第二题中then he这句为什么就不对了呢？

My view:

then沒有作為連接詞的功能，第一題為什麼要選A，是因為by後面接名詞片語

by putting.......,then installing......並不是子句，所以不需要連接詞

再者,D的邏輯不通,duct是用來把熱氣排掉的,不是人把熱氣排掉.

第二題：兩個句子要連接詞,then不能當連接詞所以當然不能選囉!

18题 D我还是看不出问题，R兄说的再者,D的邏輯不通,duct是用來把熱氣排掉的,不是人把熱氣排掉，这个从何而来？ A如果正确是做状语吗？做状语才说得通，如果和installing是两个并列的步骤则then不能做连词句子错做状语又修饰什么呢？问的又点乱，诚心请教大家，谢过

我不认为这里then是副词做连词用, 字典里面then明确是做副词的, 依照GMAT的严谨风格, 楼主的这个解释不敢苟同.也不觉得可以推广成为解题的思路

(窃以为这里A最好能够加上and, 成为and then installing,那么就完全对仗了)

(B) then he installing two fans and a duct that carried
(C) then two fans were installed with a duct that carried
(D) installing two fans, and then carrying through a duct

D的致命错误在于它吧carry的主语错误地指向了owner of Steele’s Grocery , 即整个句子的主语, 犯了主谓搭配的错误, 是个逻辑错误, 句子的结构变成:

owner of Steele’s Grocery....by putting ...installing...and then carrying , 其实这两个动作前两个确实是人做的, 而第三个明显是duct才能做的, 所以是个逻辑上的大错

楼主的第二个问题实际上根本在于连词的选择:

这个似乎需要楼主更多的体会:

明显是when用在这里比after 要好.

另外不用then 是因为你可以看到你的第一个例子中,两个动作是一前一后的, 有连贯性的

而第二个例子中即使翻译成中文, 如果用then, 则成了queen问XXX, 而后XXXreached

其实较好的说法是说当queen问XXX, 他reached

这两个动作并非是连贯的, 即使是说一前一后也是用after在此处比then恰当

再啰嗦一句，18题中答案A是不是做状语修饰整个句子？

A中的过去完成时也不对吧？
