85. Out of America’s fascination with all things antique have grown a market for bygone styles of furniture and fixtures that are bringing back the chaise lounge, the overstuffed sofa, and the claw-footed bathtub.

其中的that 从句从语义上看是修饰 market, 但却紧挨着fixtures,
请问定语从句不是修饰紧挨着的名词吗？还是都要从语义上判断？

这道题我也做错了. 个人理解, 单从语法上来看, that从句可以修饰 "a market", 因为是"a market for bygone styles of ..."的中心词; 也可以修饰 "bygone styles". 就近原则, 但从句意上理解, 应该是前者.

应该先从句意看得，只有MARKET 才能bring back the chaise lounge。。。。
不过记得有道考全画线的题最好的选项和其他选项的区别之一就是定语从句不能和所修饰的中心词隔太远。

倒装句，大家要试着调回正常语序后再判断修饰谁。而且我觉得句意重要一些。

为什么OG不说illogically stating either that bygone styles of furniture and fixtures, furniture and fixtures, or fixtures alone 呢?
请问既然that可以跳越修饰前面的N, 那么在 N1 for N2 of N3 and N4 that +V +O 的结构中, that有没有可能指代N3+ N4呀??? 如果满足主谓一致和逻辑合理的话.

修饰范围的有效性在SC里面很多。楼上提出的“请问既然that可以跳越修饰前面的N, 那么在 N1 for N2 of N3 and N4 that +V +O 的结构中, that有没有可能指代N3+ N4呀??? 如果满足主谓一致和逻辑合理的话. ” 这确实是可行的，但决不是一种好的用法。也就是传说中的ambiguity。OG说“either that bygone styles of furniture and fixtures, or fixtures alone ”，用的两种理解都是常见的理解，如果硬要理解为furniture and fixtures，我认为也可以，因此这也是其他选项之所以不好的原因。
偶记得OG在有一题关于Messenger的解释里提及了这个问题。

我覺得(不過真的只是我個人覺得而已)
就是要跟 a market has grown(for**)that is bringing
的has grown相呼應 所以如果在這裡用that brings好像就無法顯現出這個市場一直再成長的感覺

如果用are bringing 或bring的话, 和前面的market就不一致了. 而根据逻辑判断, that从句应该修饰的是market.
至于用is bringing 还是 brings, 同意楼上autumn713的说法.

a market for bygone styles of furniture and fixtures 对于这个名词结构，它的中心语是a market ，绝大多数情况下它后面的定从是修饰中心语的，在考研英语翻译教学中，都是这样处理的。
cocoabean的问题很好，在考研英语翻译中只有一次出现了你说的情况，但是绝大多数情况下还是修饰中心语。

我觉得将which指代的词还原到which从句中看是否合适就可以判断which的指代，
例如OG11-62. A 1972 agreement between Canada and the United States reduced the amount of phosphates that municipalities had been allowed to dump into the Great Lakes.
A. reduced the amount of phosphates that municipalities had been allowed to dump
B. reduced the phosphate amount thatmunicipalities had been dumping
C. reduces the phosphate amount municipalities have been allowed to dump
D.reduced the amount of phosphates that municipalities are allowed to dump
E. reduces the amount of phosphates allowedfor dumping by municipalities
这里判断that的到底是修饰amount还是phosphates,只需将两个代入that从句中即可，amount和phosphates还原到从句中应该是做dump的宾语，由于只能是dump phosphates 而不能dump amount，就可发现that只能是修饰phosphates。当然这是其中一个方法，若还有其他方法，还请各位大侠赐教。
