答案是D 但是这个答案中的It 指代什么呢，是the number of chirps 吗，如果是，把the number of chirps 代入句中，变成the number of chirps can in fact serve.....,进一步简化：the number can in fact serve.....,意思好像有点别扭，请NN指教。

这句话的意思是雄性叫声数量可以用来serve as an approximate thermometer，It 指代的是the number of chirps ,意思没什么问题。

晚上刚做了这个题

PREP笔记的解释是serving做伴随状语会引起逻辑上混乱和误解,有可能会认为是修饰temperature
