You can installed on multiple computers. Many people install on both laptop and desktop. However, there is certain limit for that. If you install on more than five computers (not sure if this is the exact number), Becker will send you a warning message and even give you a call, if you leave your phone number when you originally purchased the software.
It is correct that the software will expire one year after you first activate it, but the activation is not complete unless you complete your intial registration. Without completing registration, you can still watch classroom video and use the passmaster. The only things requiring a complete registration is the mock exam and the simulation. Therefore, you can view the lecture indefinitely before completing the registration. Before completing registration, the one-year expiration is irrelavant.
Everytime you open the software, there is a pop-up window asking you to register, just click "later". The system will then tell you that you have 15 days (trial period) to use it. Change the date of your computer back to the installation date everytime before you open the software. By doing this, the system will always think the current date is the installation date and you still have 15 days to use the software before it runs expired.
Despite whatever I said, I still think you shouldn't buy it before you decide when to take it. The materials change alot almost every year, especially in case of new rule coming out. AICPA claims that the new rules can be incorporated into CPA exam 6 months after the inception of such new rules.
Good luck.
