我的理解：assumption是argument的基础，assumption变了，precise vonvincing argument也变(lose force)，imprecise convincing argument不变(stable)，Physicist prefer后者。
要让我一句话说出来。。。。。难！！

The physicist rightly dreads precise argument，物理学家害怕精确的论断 since an argument that is　convincing only if it is precise loses all its force 因为只有当它精确时,才让人信服的论断会失去支柱if the assumptions on　which it is based are slightly changed，如果它所依靠的假设有一点变动 whereas an argument that is convincing though imprecise may well be stable under small perturbations of its underlying assumptions. 因此一个不是很精确但是让人信服的论断会比较稳定当它成立的基础有小的变动时

完全是字对字翻译的.

物理学家恰恰害怕精确的论点，因为一个论点，如果只有当它是很精确的时候才具有说服力的话，那么当它所基于的假设稍微有所变化的时候，它就会完全丧失它的效力。然而，一个论点虽然不是很精确，但是仍然具有说服力的话，那么即使它下面所依赖的假设有稍许的变动，它依然可能很好的保持让人信服的地位。
