标题: OG 35 -- which sold for $$, 用法对吗?
35.    In June of 1987, The Bridge of Trinquetaille, Vincent van Gogh’s view of an iron bridge over the Rhone sold for $20.2 million and it was the second highest price ever paid for a painting at auction.
(A) Rhone sold for $20.2 million and it was
(B) Rhone, which sold for $20.2 million, was
(C) Rhone, was sold for $20.2 million,
(D) Rhone was sold for $20.2 million, being
(E) Rhone, sold for $20.2 million, and was

I know B is wrong, but is the expression " which sold for .." right?  Can the "is" between " which" and "sold" omitted?

which sold for $$这种用法错误。
Sth sells well.
Sth is sold for ……dollars.
which sold for $$这里sell 做及物动词,根据时态中间必须加was.:)

,那这句话要是改成rhone, which was sold for $20.2 million, was
它到底是要强调was sold for $20.2 million?还是the second highest price 啊?

这样不对,因为原句的主干是:the bridge of trinquetaille(这一幅油画)was sold for $20.2 million。
vincent van gogh’s view of an iron bridge over the rhone 做同位语修饰the bridge of trinquetaille, the second highest price ever paid for a painting at auction做同位语修饰$20.2 million.

若改成rhone, which was sold for $20.2 million, was……,就变成了the bridge of trinquetaille was the second highest price, 意思完全改变。而且which就近指代the rhone 。

I copied nn's explanation here

buddyk:

sth sell for/at $1,是“以$1的价格出售”的意思;

sth was sold for $1,是“卖了$1”的意思。

Choices B  produce the illogical statement that the painting was the second highest price.

the second highest price. 的主语变成the bridge of trinquetaille(这一幅油画),逻辑意思上是讲不通的
