Just because King Alfred occupied and fortified London in 886 did not mean that he also won the loyalty of its citizens: the invading Danes were well aware of this weakness and used it to their advantage in 893.
(A) Just because King Alfred occupied and fortified London in 886 did not mean that he
(B) The fact that King Alfred had occupied and fortified London in 886 did not mean that he had
(C) Just because King Alfred occupied and fortified London in 886, it did not mean he
(D) The fact that King Alfred occupied and fortified London in 886, it did not mean that he
(E) Just because King Alfred had occupied and fortified London in 886, it did not mean he
just because....didn't mean that....
King Alfred had (first) occupied and (after) fortified London in
King Alfred had occupied and, in 886, fortified London

? the answer is B, isn't it?

gmatchenaimin:
just because....didn't mean that....
King Alfred had (first) occupied and (after) fortified London in
King Alfred had occupied and, in 886, fortified London
mariezhu:

Fallois proposed that Proust had tried to begin a novel in 1908, abandoned it for what was to be a long demonstration of Saint-Beuve’s blindness to the real nature of great writing, found the essay giving rise to personal memories and fictional developments, and allowed these to take over in a steadily developing novel.

“Past perfect."This verb form is used with had to show the order of two events that took place in the past.”
Example."Correct:“By the time I left for school, the cake had been baked.”

【SHOW SOMETHING IS TRUE/WILL HAPPEN】 [not in progressive]
to be a sign that something is true or will happen
mean (that)
Finding a lump does not necessarily mean you have cancer.
Clear skies mean that it will be a cold night.
Just because he's been in prison, it doesn't mean that he's violent.
