 86OG-33.

The spraying of pesticides can be carefully planned, but accidents, weather conditions that could not be foreseen, and pilot errors often cause much larger deposits of spray than they had anticipated.

(A) weather conditions that could not be foreseen, and pilot errors often cause much larger deposits of spray than they had

(B) weather conditions that cannot be foreseen, and pilot errors often cause much larger deposits of spray than

(C) unforeseeable weather conditions, and pilot errors are the cause of much larger deposits of spray than they had

(D) weather conditions that are not foreseeable, and pilot errors often cause much larger deposits of spray thanB

(E) unforeseeable weather conditions, and pilot errors often cause much larger deposits of spray than they had

THE ANSWER GIVEN IS B,

IS THE REASON THAT E IS WRONG DUE TO "THEY" REFER TO NOTHING?

OTHER WISE UNFORESEEABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS IS BETTER THAN WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT CANNOT BE FORESEEN?

help please~~

Choice A is best. In choice B, someday is misplaced. Coming first and set off with a comma, it refers loosely to the whole clause; the placement of someday in A allows the word to modify the verb precisely. Also, try to in A is preferable to try and in B. Although try and is acceptable in informal contexts, many editors and usage handbooks prefer try to in formal writing. In C, recover…out of is unidiomatic. D is needlessly wordy and contains recovery… out of. E awkwardly inverts logical word order by placing to try to do well after recovering. This is a difficult question.

“weather conditions that cannot be foreseen”和“weather conditions that are not foreseeable”

are not foreseeable 强调了 weather conditions的性质

sth that are not forseeable,有be动词的简单定语从句属于累赘,应改为 sth unforseeable

sth that cannot be forseen,属于有效表达
