标题: LSAT TEST 26 SECTION II 第17题
17.    Studies show that the most creative engineers get their best and most useful ideas only after doodling and jotting down what turn out to be outlandish ideas. Now that many engineers do their work with computers instead of on paper, however, doodling is becoming much less common, and some experts fear that the result will be fewer creative and useful engineering ideas. These experts argue that this undesirable consequence would be avoided if computer programs for engineering work included simulated notepads that would allow engineers to suspend their “serious” work on the computer, type up outlandish ideas, and then quickly return to their original work.
Which one of the following is an assumption on which the experts’ reasoning depends?
(A) Most creative engineers who work with paper and pencil spend about as much time doodling as they spend on what they consider serious work.
(B) Simulated notepads would not be used by engineers for any purpose other than typing up outlandish ideas.
(C) No engineers who work with computers keep paper and pencil near their computers in order to doodle and jot down ideas.
(D) The physical act of working on paper is not essential in providing engineers with the benefits that can be gained by doodling.
(E) Most of the outlandish ideas engineers jot down while doodling are later incorporated into projects that have practical applications.

答案D。为什么不选C呢?

用纸的时候doodling and jotting down  导出 outlandish ideas
用computer的时候,需要得出的结论是simulated notepads 导出 outlandish ideas
所以答案一定药在doodling and jotting down  和simulated notepads 之间找出一个联系

Studies show
Doodling on paper -> ideas

Some experts
Doodling on stimulated notepads in computers -> ideas

Gap: whether the doodling is made on paper is not essential

Question 17

Spot the question type: Necessary assumption

Core is: If they do have the simulated pad, allowing engineers to suspend works on computer, type up outlandish idea, and then quickly return to their works, it must be true that the result will " not be " fewer creative nor fewer useful.

If the core must be true, then it also must be true that argument also assumes that simulated pad also shares all of the necessary conditions of using paper to deliver the ideas, and there will not be any other necessary conditions of using paper that will hinder the mean of using pad to deliver exact the same outcome.

So, 2 types of the answers could be predicted.

1. At least one necessary conditions if using paper to deliver certain outcome is " not " the necessary condition of using pad.

2. At least one of necessary conditions if using paper to deliver certain outcome does not need to be the necessary condition if using pad to also deliver certain outcome.

Let us dive into the answers.

A. Not really relevant to our core, no necessary.

B. It is not necessary for the pad to be used for solely purpose.

C. What the answer really means is, No one does have paper and pen beside their pad and computer. However, even they do have paper and pen beside their computer and, certainly, even they prefer use it, the facts that do not disprove using pad could also deliver the same outcome as using pen and papers.

D. If using pen and paper, it must be true that the action is the physical acts. So, physical acts as the other necessary condition of using pen and paper " is not " the necessary condition of using pad. However, by lacking that necessary condition " does not prevent " using pad from delivering the same effect. Perfect answer as match our inference above.

E. Not really relevant.
