Please give examples in the space below to support any Top 5% or Bottom 20% ratings.
I am going to Tuck on October 15th for an applicant-initiated interview. Can I meet any of you guys before the interview? I am taking Amtrak from Philadelphia to White River Junction. Then grab a cab to the hotel. Unfortunately no room is available in Hanover Inn on 10/14 and 10/15. So I have booked two nights in Norwich Inn.
My interview is from 3:45pm to 4:15pm on October 15th. Does anybody know whether the interviewers will be current students or staff from admission office? What kind of questions are going to be asked?
Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks.
To foreverjacky,
Although there is no restriction on the length of your response, most applicants use, on average, 500 words for each essay.
Have you had an admissions interview?",
If you have not already had an admissions interview, have you scheduled one for a future date?
If you have not scheduled or completed an admissions interview, please explain why:
For this question, I just asked the Tuck admission, the reply is the following
"Tuck offers all applicants the opportunity to interview on campus in Hanover. Interviews are scheduled online on a first-come, first-served basis and must be completed by the published deadline for the round for which you are applying. To schedule an on-campus interview, visit www.tuck.dartmouth.edu/mba. Please note that all applicant-initiated interviews are conducted on campus only.
If you have not been able to come to Hanover for an on-campus interview by the published deadline, the admissions committee may request that you interview. Such requests are extended after an initial review of a candidate's application. Not all applicants will be invited to interview. Committee-initiated interviews will be conducted on campus, off campus, or by telephone.
"
Hope it helps.
To Hans007,
Financial Aid也必须在the deadline of each round前提交吗?
1. Tuck 有没有分study group之类的,课后要在一起学习或者一起做presentation的那些;
2. 过去一年各位Tuckie有没有参加Tuck或者学生社团组织的community service 或者charity work, 能不能提供具体活动的名称给我;
To yangjh1111:
001-603-646-3162
Thanks!
Tuck.Financial.Aid@tuck.dartmouth.edu
It is the online submission deadline, including all materials.
If you have difficulty getting all application in, call the admission office and they will usually give you a few days of grace period to get the rest of the material in, but make sure you submit the online part.
1. Tuck 有没有分study group之类的,课后要在一起学习或者一起做presentation的那些;
Of course, there are 5-6 people per group.
2. 过去一年各位Tuckie有没有参加Tuck或者学生社团组织的community service 或者charity work, 能不能提供具体活动的名称给我;
There are many of them, including the volunteer work and free consulting to the local non-profit orgs.
China has been the topic of many discussion, but there are not many dedicated to China, yet. Sure you can bring up any topic you want.
1、IBT TOEFL
For round 1, the chance to get in is about the same as other two early rounds. The only difference is the last round: April which has much slimmer chances.
The only disadvantage of round 1 is that scholarships might have been distributed, so less chance to get scholarship.
Sorry for late reply. It is mid-term week.
2)Why MBA
3)Why Now
4)Campus Visit
Total #: 14
Sex: Female(6)/ Male(8)
Georgraphical lcoation pre-tuck: mainland(8)/ TW(1)/ HK(1)/ US(4)
Industry pre-tuck: consulting(2)/ financial services(3)/ auditing(1)/ general management(5)/ entrepreneurship(2)/ public sector(1)
Industries represented: consulting, banking, auditing, pharma, dairy products, performance arts trading, restaurant, electronics, int'l trading...
Years of working experiences: 3-10+
之前有rumor说Tuck 比较prefer某个年龄段的applicants,而就我看到的情况,it's not true.
Glad to learn about your interest in Tuck. Your perceptions about Tuck is pretty close to what we have experienced thus far, seems you have done some serious research. Good job!
About your questions:
1) About length of working experience
One thing to be sure, "short" w/e doesn't hurt your application. We have one T'09(first-year) who came to Tuck with 3 years of working experiences, just like your situation. BUT, it will be a problem if you can't make a convincing story in "why now" section of your essay. See my answer to your third point below.
Also, you mentioned you do not have much chance to lead a team or exercise leadership. There is at least one year before you start your application, if you want more exposure to leadership opprotunities/roles, you can and should make it happen during that one year. Also, leadership does not necessarily mean managing people, it's about leading and influencing people around you. More than often, you don't need to be in manager's position to do that.
2) Why MBA
Many Tuckies choose MBA to switch career, and Tuck is very career-switcher-friendly with its general management approach. You want to switch to finance post-MBA? Tuck will more than serve you well. However, what do you want to do in the long run? Do you plan to spend the rest of your career (in your case 30+ years) crunching numbers and building models? If that's the case, probably you can consider a Ph.D. in finance or mathmatics, they are more quant- and model-heavy, and they are less expensive. Or if not, you'd better start thinking about what you aspire to do 10, 20 years from now, and how MBA/Tuck can help you get there.
3) Why now
Consider the following two statements:
a. I want to go to MBA now because I don't want to do my current job anymore, I have had enough of it and I'm trying to get out of it asap.
b. I want to go to MBA now because I want to switch to finance. My past three years in consulting has helped me to gain strong business acumen and understanding of the "big picture" of business... and I'm interested in translating my understanding of business into more direct financial results...but I need rigorous training to bridge the knowledge gap...
Got it?
4) Campus visit
I'd strongly encourage you to visit Tuck if you have a chance to come to US. Remember to schedule the visit via https://register.applyyourself.com/AYEventSchedule/Events.asp?id=dart-mba&pid=879. Also, shoot us an email before you come, so that Chinese Tuckies and you can get a chance to know each other when you are here.
If you come by in Apr, you would probably have the chance to experience ASW(Admitted Student Weekend). It would tons of fun and you will know what I mean when you are here.
Also, I'd encourage you to visit other schools you are interested in while you are in US. While I doubt anyone would not like Tuck after their visit, Tuck isn't for everyone. Sometimes people find other places more culturally fit.
5) About background
See my reply about the backgrouds of first-year Tuckies who came in this fall, and you won't worry about your background being weak.
Personality-wise, Tuckies are not aggressive communicators (we won't fight for air time, well, most of us don't), but we are generally good communicators. If you think you are weak in communication, work on improving it.
General Recommendation
You are only a little over 1 year into your career, and I'm glad you have started actively planning your career path. However, don't be opinionated about your goal. Take some time to find out what you need and what you want, and see if MBA/Tuck fits into that picture, not on the contrary.
Good luck!

Got you!

tuck,my dream school...
The biggest round is in January, so a lot of financial aid in the form of scholarships, is awarded at that time, however, we try to have some funds and places in the class for those people who apply in April. We cannot guarantee you a scholarship, which is based on merit, but you can certainly apply for financial aid loans in that round.
We thank you for your interest in Tuck and if you have further questions, please feel free to contact us.
http://service.chasedream.com/chasedream/workshop/2006/result.htm
TUCK ALUMNI ,TUCKER,TUCKER TO BE
Hope it helps.
Eric:

INTERVIEW, LUNCH is a better idea.
Simply come to Pepsi Dining Hall tomorrow and you will find Chinese students there.
I have to have lunch tomorrow with a company, so I won't be there.
Good luck and enjoy the snow here.

mine is below. Hope it helps.

anyway, I have found the answer to my questions already.
thanks.
I always believe the sentence:why not try?
if it fails, it is not your fault;if you not try, it is your fault.
