The growth of the railwoads led to the abolition of local times,which was determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing from city to city,and to the establishment of regional times.

A,B,C可以排除
D.determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differed
E.determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing

答案：E
我想问最后要用differing而不是differed呢？难道differ和determine不是同一位置的吗？differing的逻辑主语是哪个啊？

我理解的是：

differ 与 which从句平行。这么看：.......to the abolition of local times, differing from city to city.........（去掉了定语从句）

Time是由Sun....定的，逻辑关系为被动

而后面Vary....这半句中，differing 的逻辑主语是times，逻辑主语和differ之间主动的关系

分词对应分词的时候，ing + ed是可以对应的

differing的逻辑主语是local time，他们之间是主动关系，
