标题: verbal review 32(紫皮书)=OG10-1

The Wallerstein study indicates that even after a decade young men and women still experience some of the effects of a divorce occurring when a child

(A)  occurring when a child

(B)  occurring when children

(C)  that occurred when a child

(D)  that occurred when they were children

(E)  that has occurred as each was a child

A  Child does not agree with men and womenalsoincorrect clause

B  This choice does not correct logic or agreement errors·

C  Child does not agree with men and women

D  CorrectThis sentence corrects both problems by making it clear that the divorce took place when the men and women were children and by using they and children to agree with men and women.

E  Each does not agree with men and womenalsoincorrect verb tense

在CD上找了好久也没有找到这题相关的链接,理解不了为什么OG说A中The phrasing implies that the young men and women had divorced in childhood,笨鸟里说这题是涉及到限制性定语从句与非限制定语从句、ing分词做定语的区别,那么区别是什么?有没有NN可以翻译一下A和C选项?

请高手指导!

谢谢。

首先A与C中when从句省略了主语和谓语。根据单复数一致原则,省略的是a divorce was a child,这很明显不符合逻辑。
限制性定语是以that开头,解释说明所修饰的名词,不能缺少;
非限制性定语是以which开头,可以缺少;
ing做定语,主语应该是整个句子的主语,也有例外,以逻辑意思为主。

谢谢讲解。可以还是不太明白A、C是如何省略的。能帮忙恢复一下省略前的整个句子吗?

你的OG解释从何而来?为什么我的上面写的

Choice A
incorrectly introduces the when... phrase
with occurring, thus illogically
making divorce the grammatical
referent of when a child;
furthermore, the singular child does
not agree with the plural men and women.

这两种说法是不一样的。按照我的OG解释的说法,省略还原后如下:

The Wallerstein study indicates that even after a decade young men and women still experience some of the effects of a divorce occurring when the divorce was a child

我是从紫色的verbal review 上copy下来的:

32The Wallerstein study indicates that even after a decade young men and women still experience some of the effects of a divorce occurring when a child

(A)  occurring when a child

(B)  occurring when children

(C)  that occurred when a child

(D)  that occurred when they were children

(E)  that has occurred as each was a child

Logical predication + Agreement

The original sentence has two problems(1) The phrasing implies that the young men and women had divorced in childhood (2)The word child does not agree with the antecedent men and women

The correct answer is D
