OG的解释：E is faulty because it contains no verb to express the action performed by the rapid motion.

但是by the rapid motion 不能修饰名词the shift嘛？是仅仅因为隔的太远还是因为不能修饰？

个人意见，不是NN，我觉得E中的shift是名词，而动词优于名词，所以不选。

再问一下，这道题的答案是选第一个吗？谢谢。

解释red shift"是动作而不是状态,所以用动词.而不用表达状态的名词

I feel that the key point here is "extend" . Most of times, I see extend of + gerund
