从原文的意思, 作者想表达的是Nancy希望有更多的moderate republican senators,而不是更多的women senators, 在表达上可以用not...but并列,也可以用so...as 并列,但是,必须保证并列的完整性,即not for...but for..., 或so ....for... as for..., 这里for不可省略.

例如wished  not  而不是did not wish

(D) did not wish for more women senators so much as for moderate Republicans

if you add "for" for choice D, it would be grammatically correct.

However, C is still better since "so much" in C modifies " wish"

my opinion~open to discussion

这句是不是考not so much as这个考点?

(E) wished for more senators who are moderate Republicans than women (senators)

here, can senators be omitted in order to make a parallel structure? then, senators who are moderate Republicans and women senators are compared. so i choose E. what's wrong with it?

(E) wished for more senators who are moderate Republicans than women (senators)

here, can senators be omitted in order to make a parallel structure? then, senators who are moderate Republicans and women senators are compared. so i choose E. what's wrong with it?

it seems ok, i also picked the answer E. After reading C again, I find the idiom "not so ... as..." is much better.
