many of them in...和 many of them children是非谓语动词形式, 即所在分句中不可以有实意动词, many of them 与它前面的名词并列,整个分句起补充说明作用.若不用非谓语动词形式,完整的应为many of whom are...

B中的单复数已经错了.定语从句修饰的是green fields

两个疑问：

1、A of B 结构中，A为中心词，虽然从逻辑上讲patchwork不能surround,但是从结构上讲surround应该修饰patchwork.

2、them的指代问题。一般文中代词them 前有两个或两个以上的复数名次，似乎不倾向于用them来指代名次，会造成歧义。本题fields 和 workers都是复数，这里用them 指代似乎没有whom 更明确。

还请nn解释一二

同问。。并且，，这道题里面是 the patchwork of green fields，前面有the，the one of sth that，如果sth是复数，难道不是应该后面也跟动词复数形式吗？？茫然

这道题我也错了，因为想当然地认为定从修饰中心词the patchwork，但后来仔细体会一下，A of B的中心词不一定就是A。短语的构成方式有很多种（语文没学好，但依稀记得有诸如偏正，并列，动宾等结构）这里的结构来看，中心词是greenfields，即使没有patchwork，greenfields照样是可以被理解的。

而相比较，OG116- Out of America's....has grown a market for bygone styles of furniture and fixtures that is bringing back....中短语中心词就是market，后面都是用来限制定义这个market,并且没有了后面的修饰就不能被理解。

所以，通过中心词判断从句修饰对象关键是要判断中心词，不能想当然，不过就是有点复杂。

当然如楼上诸位所说，通过逻辑判断double check一下更好。

我觉得A of B的中心词一定就是b ，是偏正结构，只是后面的定语从句一需要考虑到底是修饰中心词A还是B，你举得那个例子out of是个短语和偏正结构没什么关系，我觉得判断修饰对象主要还是从逻辑意思上来说，不能盲目就近，虽然大多数情况下是就近。
