(b) trying that it metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant

(d) attempt to try and metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritating it

(e) attempt to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant

the sentence doesn't look grammatically correct, can anyone explain it please?

enzymes are the organism's attempt to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant.

the chemical irritant是metabolize和render的宾语，metabolize和render是并列的不定式谓语动词。
