For many people, household labor remains demanding even if able to afford household appliances their grandparents would find a miracle.
(A) even if able to afford household appliances their grandparents would find a miracle
(B) despite being able to afford household appliances their grandparents would find a miracle
(C) even if they can afford household appliances their grandparents would have found miraculous
(D) although they could afford household appliances their grandparents would find miraculous
(E) even if they are able to afford household appliances which would have been a miracle to their grandparents
why not E?

1 can优于be able to, be able to一般指天生具有的能力。
2 which从句有好几个问题,之一:a miracle 与appliances不一致;之二:their优先指代appliances

难道我们不能说:these applicances is a miracle for us 只能说 these applicances are miracles for us ?

if they are able to afford household appliances which would have been a miracle to their grandparents

e表达太罗索,且be able to也不好

不能用 be able to afford

查LONGMAN
be able to do something
a) to have the skill, strength, knowledge etc needed to do something
I've always wanted to be able to speak Japanese.
see usage note can 1
b) to be in a situation in which it is possible for you to do something
I'd like to do more gardening, but I never seem able to find the time. I haven't been able to read that report yet.
CAN
1
▶ABILITY◀
to be able to do something or to know how to do something
You can swim, can't you? Even a small personal computer can store vast amounts of information. Gabriella can speak French fluently. I'm afraid Mr Harding can't see you now - he's busy. The police are doing all they can to find her.

我覺得這裡can是說可以,be able to 是指能夠,但afford也是能夠負擔,意思自然重複,所以一般都會說can afford不會說be able to afford

不能用 be able to afford
afford: verb. [no passive] usually used with can, could or be able to, especially in negative sentences or questions.

E :which is not correct since [appliances] dosen't agree with a mircale.
C is correct.[that] has been ommitted and [found appliances miraculous]is the intention structure
