我对此题的选择没有疑问，我想问privided 和if 的区别。
OG 上给出了一句话是B uses the pretentious and illogical word provided for if in a
conditional clause after a negative idea (would fail).
似乎是说provided 不能用在一个a negative idea 上，我查了一下朗文，给出的解释是：
if and only if
请教一下具体的用法

我倒觉得这题provided & if 的区别不是主流，而是1，时态；2，无that.
不过，综合该句的意思，的确if 要比if and only if 要合适-----怎么感觉考逻辑似的。WHATEVER，也不奇怪，GMAT考试无论是阅读，语法都时不时在测验考生的逻辑思维能力，更甭说逻辑本身了。

if, or only if

（注：He was released on bail on condition that he did not go within half a mile of his mother’s address. On the condition表达的明显是必要条件。）
总结：虽然有些词典也认为其有IF的含义，但大多数还是认可且只认可作only if解。而only if的意思是“只有”，表达的是必要条件（上面所有的例子我们当作必要条件来理解都不会出现荒谬的意思）。相反IF表达的是充分条件。这两个词的区别是不是主要在这里？
至于OG 上说的：B uses the pretentious and illogical word provided for if in a conditional clause after a negative idea (would fail).
是不是说这里用必要条件不合适？
第二个例子前面就是否定的意思。

更谢谢gemj gg，so多的解释呢。我想gg说的是对的，provided 是必要条件，if是充分条
件。我刚刚又想了想OG的解释，觉得或者它的重点并没有落在a negative idea 上，它只
是在陈述事实-条件从句是跟在这个后面，它对provided的解释实际上是落在the
pretentious and illogical word 上，这个应该也是传达了gg说的意思。
sigh...看来偶的阅读没有过关呢。

我认为OG的解释是正确的，至少限于非常正规的书面表达。
下面一段是从longman字典上摘录下来。
you use provided (that) or providing (that) when the condition is that something definitely happens or is definitely true,for example:
providing the weather's OK, we'll make the trip.
对比来看unless/if...not的用法
unless and if...not can both be used to say that what you will do depends on something else happening.即表示要做的事情取决于另一件事情的发生
个人观点：由此可见provided (that)，最好接一些正态度的句意。

总的来说就是 provide : only if.且最好用正态度。
不过为什么楼上有人说这个地方主要在于only if 而不是否定态度这个点上呢？我的理解不是很好，有没有人可以对此做一下解释了？

个人看法
provided和if的区别不在态度的正反上，事实上provided也可以用在负态度上，但是它很不常见，这种不常见是它的意思造成的，即“仅当”的意思；“仅当某一条件达成时，一件事情就可以成功”，这是一种正常的表达，而“仅当某一条件达成时，一件事情就不会成功”则有些奇怪，因为我们考虑问题总是以“达成有利条件而至成功”这样的逻辑去走。
但是如果我化身邪恶博士，并说出
The superman's plan, which is the last hope for human beings, will not work provided I could better handle my new power!
这样的话也是正确的，出于过度膨胀的自信邪恶博士认为只有他掌握新力量才能阻止超人的计划。
语法没有错误，只是逻辑有些别扭，希望小花能够理解

翻阅了陈用仪老先生的 英语常用词用法疑难手册
有提到provided和if的区别，贴在这里：
provided并不完全等于if，它带有“要求满足正面条件”的含义。
You may leave now if (不可以用provided) you wish. 你如果想走现在就可以走（是你自己的愿望，不是对你的要求）。
You may leave provided (可用if) you have finished your work. 你如果做完了工作，就可以走。
如果条件句是个否定句（不是正面条件），就只能用if从句，不能用provided从句。
We'll be late for the show if(不可以用provided) we don't hurry. 咱们如果不赶快，看戏就会晚到了。
另外，如果条件是不利的（并非所要求的正面条件），也不能用provided。
We'll stay home if (不可以用provided) it rains tomorrow. 如果明天下雨，我们就呆在家里。

我没看出来有时态的问题
，这里用不用虚拟语气都可以吧，表示肯定程度不同吧？
