1. In the minds of many people living in England, before Australia was Australia, it was the antipodes, the opposite pole to civilization, an obscure and unimaginable place that was considered the end of the world.
(A) before Australia was Australia, it was the antipodes
(B) before there was Australia, it was the antipodes
(C) it was the antipodes that was Australia
(D) Australia was what was the antipodes(A)
(E) Australia was what had been known as the antipodes
还是不明白这题的意思,答案是A,觉得A意思很不清楚,我选了D
看到还有人和我一样坚持在网上,很是欣慰,(别告诉我你在美国)
我的看法是,a是正确的。before Australia(地名) was Australia(国家名),a was a 表示强调,或者有特殊含义。
d错在 a is what is b. 这种用法一般都是a可以安全涵盖b,或者完全对应b,而what was the antipodes是描述性的,而不是对应性的。Australia was what the antipodes was就对了。
为什么E中的had been是错的呢?不大明白这个解释耶:E similarly distorts the original meaning, and the past perfect had been is inconsistent with the past tense used to establish a time frame for the rest of the sentence.有没有NN过来下啊~~
