想不通哎, 为什么D选项里的would没有时态问题, 这句话整个是发生在现在的时态呀. 请NN指教.

这里would是情态东西,并不是will的过去式

would you please lend me $10?这不也是现在吗?

继续问, 是不是could, would, might这3个有时候是作为情态动词而非助动词出现? 在什么语境下会用?  

当时看这题答案的时候, 我也怀疑过是情态动词, 但实在想不出为什么这句话需要使用情态动词呀.

请再指教, 谢谢!

the answer is D here becoz:
1. parellel. would amount || would represent (answer A is wrong bcoz gerund can only modify the subject of the main clause. the "amonutng" and "representing" actually refer to the increase, not the manufacturer.)
2. would is the right unreal past tense here. since it's only a plan, not an actual fact.
below are not the actual equations but these help you to diffentiate the difference of could, would, might.
would = presumbly
could = possibly  (in GMAT, it "could" exist, possibly must be removed. since it means the same thing)
might = intensionally
