我想不是。 The United States是指美国，就像China, France一样。
所有的选项中都没有people in ，所以我认为是省略了。因为death rate不可能是people的, 而是两个国家的，所以不能用their. 而D选项读起来很别扭，故B是最佳答案。

B.people in France 怎么和 U.s.比,正确的应该说people in France and (in )the United States B 错

C. at a comparable rate to the United States’s....united states's什么? 食物?人?动物? 应该是 at a comparable rate to (the rate ) of United States...还有,后边的their指代不明. 这个地方逻辑指代了 foods.还有,这道题把被动改主动,不妥. C错

D. 错误同B,因该说 the rate of fatty foods consumed in France and (in)the United States is about the same. 而且这里说 fatty foods consumed ,是谁consumer也没说清楚,是人?猪?牛? D 错

the Unitied States不能指人但有听说可以修饰物比如 united states products.指人的话还是只能说 american(s)
